Mohamed Salah is the new rising star of the national team and a favorite with Egyptian fans . The U-23 playmaker is fast becoming a regular place in The Pharaohs' lineup and did his growing status no wrong by scoring an injury time winning goal against Guinea last weekend in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers away from home. Salah is scheduled to move to Swiss side Basel FC next season. He told Cafonline.com that Egypt's is after qualification for 2013 Orange Africa Cup of Nations finals and this journey starts with victory this weekend against Central African Republic in Alexandria.
Cafonline.com: How do you see Friday game against Central African Republic?
Mohamed Salah: It's going to be a tough and difficult game. We cannot underestimate any team because football knows no names or rules. It rewards those with determination and commitment. We are playing for a convincing victory before the return leg in a fortnight.
Cafonline.com: This is going to be your third game in two weeks, how are you physically feeling?
Mohamed Salah: Well there is some tiredness, it's only natural especially when you consider that we played Mozambique at home and then flew to Guinea, and immediately after we returned we started preparing for this game. But we have to deal with that. We'll play hard to win because our aim is qualifying to the next round.
Cafonline.com: Your recent back to back victories in the World Cup qualifiers:What impact does that have on the team?
Mohamed Salah: Those victories raised our morale and confidence. But we have to put that aside and play against Central African Republic with the same determination. This is another tournament now and we have to qualify to that too because Egypt is seven times African champion, and we must qualify.
Cafonline.com: What do you know about your opponents Central African Republic?
Mohamed Salah: We followed some of their last games and I can say they are a good and organized team. I said before football knows no names and all the African teams had developed a lot. We cannot underestimate them and in all cases we're playing to win and qualify.
Cafonline.com: You have become "fans' favorite" lately. How do you feel about that?
Mohamed Salah: What matters for me is the team. I hope to take part with the Olympic team in London Olympic Games next month, and then to be a part of the national team, and that we qualify to the 2013 AFCON and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
